Metal braces are what most people think of when they think of orthodontics. They're the traditional method of moving teeth into position and, thanks to advances in orthodontic technology, continue to be an effective treatment option.
What are metal braces?
Traditional metal braces are made up of small metal brackets which are attached to the front surface of your teeth. These brackets are connected with an archwire, a thin wire that responds to the movement of your teeth. Small (sometimes colourful) elastic bands are then used to put pressure on the archwires to move your teeth into position.
Benefits of metal braces
Because of their look, metal braces have been nicknamed ‘train tracks’ but nowadays the technology we use means the brackets are much smaller and less noticeable. They’re also more comfortable to wear. And, despite their appearance, metal braces really do get results.
