Your First Appointment
Your first appointment
Stepping into an orthodontist’s clinic for the first time can be a nerve-wracking experience, but it doesn’t have to be. To help you get comfortable with the process, we’ve broken down what will happen when you come meet us at Eden Orthodontics.
Initial orthodontic consultation
Your journey to a brand new smile begins with an initial orthodontic consultation. At this appointment, you’ll meet with our Specialist Orthodontist, Dr. Rachel Smith. This is an opportunity for you to find out exactly how you could benefit from orthodontic treatment and is a chance for Dr. Smith to understand your specific needs and goals.
X-rays and photos of your teeth will be taken to allow Dr. Smith to make a full assessment of your orthodontic requirements. She’ll then provide you with a custom treatment plan outlining the type of treatment she thinks you’ll most benefit from. With traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, lingual braces and Invisalign treatments available, we’re sure to have something to suit your needs. During this appointment we will also discuss the estimated length of treatment time and cost.
Once you have decided to go ahead with orthodontic treatment, the next step is to come in for your start appointment. This is the day you’ll have your first iTero scan so your treatment can be prescribed by Dr Smith. Your aligners will be manufacture according to this prescription and will be given to you at your next appointment. Alternatively, this is the day your braces will be fitted if you've chosen this treatment.
This braces on appointment will be one of the longer ones you have with us, lasting around 40 minutes. It is unlikely to be painful to have your braces put on, but your teeth are likely to be a little tender for a few days afterwards. We’ll advise you on the best foods to eat while your teeth get accustomed to your braces, how to clean them, and how to manage any discomfort you may have. An iTero scan takes appointment takes around 20 minutes.
