Invisalign is an effective orthodontic treatment that doesn’t require you to wear braces, yet it still gets great results.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment method that uses a series of clear, plastic aligners to move your teeth into positon. These aligners look a bit like thin sports mouthguards and slot over your teeth. The clear plastic they are made from makes them virtually invisible, so no-one will know you’re having treatment.
How does Invisalign work?
Using 3D technology, we are able to take an image of your teeth as they are now, and then see how they will look once they’re in their straighter position. Using this technology, Invisalign makes custom-made sets of aligners to fit your teeth. Every two weeks you need to change these aligners as each set is ever so slightly different, responding to the movement of your teeth. Over your treatment period, these aligners will gradually move your teeth into position.
You need to wear these aligners 22 hours per day, but you can take them out for eating, brushing and flossing your teeth, as well as for important occasions like business meetings.
Types of Invisalign
Invisalign has a number of different models of aligners, making this treatment method suitable for everyone:
Invisalign Full: Invisalign Full is the original version. It is also one of the most versatile as it can be used for a range of orthodontic problems. Treatment with Invisalign Full tends to take between 12 and 18 months.
Invisalign Teen: Ideal for the self-conscious teenager, Invisalign Teen works just like Invisalign, only the aligners have a blue dot wear indicator on them so you can keep track of how often the aligners are being worn. Invisalign Teen won’t interfere with a teenager’s lifestyle either as they can be taken out while playing sports or musical instruments.
Invisalign Lite: Many adult patients would like to have straight teeth but the thought of having to wear braces later in life can be off-putting. In some cases though, only minor tooth correction may be required, which is what Invisalign Lite is ideal for. Patients can see results within six months!
Invisalign i7: Invisalign i7 can often be the perfect solution for that one annoying crooked front tooth. Designed to correct the front six upper and lower teeth only, this model of Invisalign is used for minor cases which can be corrected in as little as three months.
